Martha’s Vineyard: a place where everything is cute and charming, a place where the fried clam strips and beer should probably just get married and where the clam chowder is to die for. It’s a place that’s bright and colourful, even when the clouds roll in. It’s a place where chalk lobsters line the sidewalks and rocking chairs adorn front porches, where old lighthouses still dot the coast and long beaches beg to be used for movies. It’s a place that draws presidents, celebrities and tourists alike, one of those places that has that special feeling, that indescribable comfort felt at first glance, stepping off a ferry, breathing deeply the salty air. It’s a place where our tour guide offered his services to President Obama when he visited – and there you have it… there’s my one degree of separation.

Have you ever been to Martha’s Vineyard? What did you think?

I just want to be friends… like my Facebook page and follow me on twitter!

  1. Agreed. Ridiculously adorable. So many pastel colours.

  2. I know I’ve said this before, but I seriously can’t believe I’ve never been to this part of the U.S. You’re right: everything is so adorable! I love how all the houses are so colorful… they look like gingerbread houses!

It’s definitely a special part of the world. I know I intend to spend more time there in the future…
And funny you should say they look like gingerbread houses because that’s what they call them on Martha’s Vineyard!

  3. Everything cute, including your shoes! Daww.

  4. You weren’t kidding – everything is cute. Wow!

  5. LOL to the munchkins! If fried clam strips and beer ever do announce their nuptial will you please pass that along? I want to attend! Your shoe pictures always make me smile. Great post as always, Colleen! 🙂

There were so many neat stories on the island, the munchkins only being part of the repertoire.
And please, who doesn’t want to be at a fried clam strips and beer wedding!

  6. Even cuter than I imagined? How to places like this exist outside of a movie set? That’s so cool you had the same tour guide as the president!

    • Colleen

Actually, much of the island was used in the movie Jaws, which was super cool to see! And yeah, that president factoid was definitely a highlight. So cool.

  7. Cute indeed! I love the architecture of the homes. Second story balconies are definitely cute!

    • Colleen

Aren’t they though! I can just see myself drinking strong black tea in the mornings on one of those balconies.

  8. Looks like a charming little place! Your photos remind me of my trip to Massachusetts a few years back, though I didn’t make it as far as Martha’s Vineyard.

    • Colleen

It’s such a great place – really warrants plenty of time there. Or.. multiple trips. 😉

  9. What is this place and how do I buy one of those pastel houses? Also, your shoes are so great!

    • Colleen

Martha’s Vineyard in Massachusetts, USA. I would also like one of these houses, so maybe we should buy one together.
And thanks – those are one of my fave pairs of shoes!

  10. A.Freakin.Dorable. Is there anything NOT to like about all the lobsters and curlicued houses?

    • Colleen

It’s so true. The whole region is just a dream. From the FOOD to the cute houses. Gah!

  11. AH. CUTE houses!! They look so darn tiny though – almost like a doll house!

    • Colleen

Yes they were definitely quaint and charming. I would love to know what it is like to actually live in one!

  12. I adore the colours, especially the light blue banister and windows and doors’ frames. Everything seems like it would be in a fairy tale.

    • Colleen

I agree. The stuff of story books. I like to think I’d have the balls to paint my house like that one day.

  13. Oh, my! The cutest travel photo series ever!
