That Time Of Year

Aug 24, 2013 by

I write you right now from one of those motels that screams Dexter and Breaking Bad all at once, one of those motels that you drive by and think, “nothing good happens there.” This is the kind of motel that is likely hosting some sort of drug deal and/or murder at this moment and makes me leery of taking a shower for fear of a man with a knife stabbing me through the curtains to the sounds of sharp violins. Outside, a black car with black sunglasses sitting on the dash is parked beside my little silver car. Three large, black motorcycles are parked along the other side of the mostly sparse motel parking lot. My cat is padding around, smelling the lingering scent of big, wet dog, and I’m wiling away the hours with bad TV on a television that was probably a big deal in 1991.

I’m almost back in Waterloo, having done two days of 8 hour driving.

So… dodgy motel rooms, so (so) much Tim Hortons and scraping bug juice off my windshield… you know what it all means. It’s that time of year again. It’s back to school.

Yay for Timmies and motels! I smiled at the description, I know exactly what you mean. Welcome home!

  2. I clicked on and found this link thru Accelerated Stall. And you just made me burst out laugh!!! It’s the expression on our face! Sounds like you found a 2013 version of the (hopefully not) Bates Motel. I’m not being morbid. I’m still laughing at the look on your face, Colleen!!! Thank you…I needed that tonight! 🙂

  6. I love that it looks like there’s a sign behind you that reads “you look happy” – your expression is so the opposite of that.

Precisely! Good eye. You are the first to have noticed, or at least commented. That was an intentional photo selection, of course.

Yeah… what is it with those motels and Timmies?
I’m glad to hear from someone who is familiar with the Loo… and if I’m not mistaken, Mel’s diner is up and running… I’m pretty sure it’s there that my friends go for the pulled pork nachos. I went once. To DIE for.
Thanks for stopping by. Hope to hear from you again!
