Vanity In Wales

My friend Dawn is snap-happy. Those were her words. Given the chance, she will take more photos rather than less. This was how my visit with her earlier this year transpired. We drove around Wales, visited some killer places like Llandudno and Portmeirion, and we took oodles and oodles of photos. I’m a little snap-happy too, but I also enjoy playing model. I’m well aware that I’m far from being America’s Next Top Model, but if someone wants to hit the button on the camera, I will frolic and jump and make my hair big and smeyes until the end of time.

It was fun to take photos with Dawn’s direction. Being the creative soul that she is, she had real vision when it came to the photos she was taking. At one point, she asked me to drape my orange scarf over my head. I was wearing my hair in a high topknot that day, so I asked, “Won’t it just look like I have a big lump on my head? Or a conehead?” and her quick response was, “I want the height.” The effect was interesting, and I don’t think my head looks as lumpy as I’d imagined it would.

Anyway… it’s always fun to see yourself through someone else’s eyes… particularly in the Welsh countryside.

  1. You’re a breath of fresh air! It was refreshing to photograph someone who likes to be photographed!!! You are, as a bonus, absolutely stunning.

You’re my favourite human. I can’t wait to come back – take more photos, do a buttload of writing, explore more of Wales, eat tons of food and watch all the movies. x

  2. Very fun indeed! You look so joyous in these photos, it really radiates out. I can just imagine how much fun the two of you had together in Wales (although I feel like from the photos, I barely need to use my imagination!).

    • Colleen

Heehee! Thank you Steph. I always love your take on things. You would love my friend Dawn. Let’s all go to Wales. πŸ™‚

  3. I love it! Looks like so much fun, also I need to go to Wales, it looks so pretty

    • Colleen

Wales was amazing, so green and lush. I had gone from Qatar (the desert) to this! As interesting and worthwhile as the desert is to see and visit… I’m a total sucker for the green countryside like this.

  4. LOL…I can’t stop giggling about the cone head analogy!!! What a wonderful, happy, smiling post to get through this Monday work day, Colleen. I need to talk to my lunch friends who never want their photo taken! I never press the issue. Yes, I’m hooked on Boardwalk Empire and got the Season 1 for “free” on Amazon. Now I have to buy the other ones…and gladly so!! πŸ™‚

    • Colleen

Haha – I should have known the cone head analogy would get you.
I’m glad this post made you smile. I wanted to share something lighthearted and easy for once.
We should chat about Boardwalk Empire sometime!

I love the blue door picture and the jumping series!

  6. Now THAT is what a selfie should be all about! Love the saffron colored scarf and scrolling up and down through the pics, I nearly got a flip-book effect – too much fun!

    • Colleen

Actually- I could totally make a flip book out of some of the photos I have; I used a feature on my camera that takes 10 sequential shots (then I just choose my favourites). Dawn LOVED this feature.

  7. I like the photo of you in the covered bench! That looks like a perfect reading spot on a rainy day!

    • Colleen

There were a few of those along the path. I had too much fun in there.

  8. Those running jumping photos are gorgeous!! You are totally a model. And Dawn is quite talented! I need a friend like that because I’m always the one taking pictures — I’m hardly ever in any. One day I might disappear and people will be like, hey… why don’t we have any pictures of her? πŸ™‚

    • Colleen

Okay, so this is what we do.
You come to Winnipeg. We go eat all the Indian food, Spanish tapas, and drink all the wine. Then (but possibly not in this order because we will be too full from all the eating) we go and plan a wicked photo shoot. Canadian wilderness somewhere?

  9. You crack me up lady! You got some serious height on that split jump, I’m impressed! The cone head pictures look very haute couture πŸ˜‰

    • Colleen

If I were more model-y, totally haute couture! I thought they would make me have a lumpy head, but I enjoyed the effect. Also, I have some pretty funny running/jumping photos. Those are always the most fun for being the least predictable with the outcome.

  10. That green seriously looks digitally enhanced -just amazing countryside!

    • Colleen

What you see is what you get. It was TRULY breathtaking there. I think I was actually squealing when we first got to my friend’s house – I was completely speechless.
